SUMMARY:Builders & Developers Council
DESCRIPTION:During the pandemic\, we've seen an exodus from the coasts to middle America and from the cities to the suburbs\, resulting in low housing inventory and high prices for new and existing homes. Today\, lumber prices appear to be falling back to earth. Futures for July delivery were down 41% from a record high in early May. \n\nBut if you're still struggling to find qualified\, skilled workers to fill open positions on your job sites\, you're not alone. The construction labor shortage has been a problem for over a decade and the COVID-19 pandemic has put even more pressure on an already understaffed workforce. The result is an overstretched skilled workforce\, project delays\, and increased costs. \n\nThe deficit of young skilled workers is being countered by construction curriculum being reintroduced at several Tulsa-area high schools. The only way\, however\, to sustain this effort is with YOUR help and support. Emphasis on student employment by HBA member companies has never been important. It is the only way that students can affect a relationship with HBA members\, and don't forget\, they are not only the workforce of the future\, but future HBA members\, as well. \n\nPlease join us in a tour of TTC's new Client Service Center and learn more about TTC's construction programs. The partnership with Tulsa Technology Center has been essential in the success of Build My Future OK events and we look forward to the 2021 Build My Future on October 28\, 2021. \n\n\n\nThe tour will not only provide ALL HBA MEMBERS with an opportunity to tour the newest TTC facility\, but to learn more about the people and programs who are committed to guaranteeing that there will be an educated construction industry workforce in the future.
